Is ultrasound safe?
Yes. Ultrasound is one of the safest imaging techniques available because it uses harmless high-frequency sound waves instead of radiation. It is suitable for people of all ages, including pregnant women, and can be repeated as often as needed without risk. At Excel Hospital, we follow strict medical guidelines to ensure patient comfort and accuracy during every scan.
Do I need to fast?
For many abdominal scans, fasting for 6–8 hours is recommended to improve image clarity, especially when evaluating the gallbladder, liver, pancreas, or bile ducts. Fasting reduces gas in the stomach and intestines, making it easier to see internal organs clearly. Our team will confirm your exact preparation instructions when scheduling your test, as requirements may vary based on the type of scan.
How long will the test take?
The duration depends on the procedure. A routine ultrasound usually takes about 15–30 minutes. A plain X-ray is much quicker, typically completed in a few minutes. X-ray contrast studies, such as barium swallow or barium enema, can take 20–40 minutes as they require additional steps for detailed imaging. We strive to keep your waiting and procedure time minimal without compromising accuracy.
Can I drive home afterward?
Yes. Most gastro imaging procedures, including ultrasound and X-ray, do not require sedation or anesthesia, so you can resume normal activities immediately after the test. If you are undergoing a rare procedure that involves sedation, we will inform you in advance and advise you to arrange for someone to drive you home.
Will I get images?
Yes. We provide your imaging results in both digital format and a formal radiology report prepared by our specialist. These can be shared directly with your referring doctor or kept for your personal medical records. Having these images ensures better follow-up and continuity of care.
What if something abnormal is found?
If your imaging reveals any abnormal findings, our radiologist will prepare a detailed report and share it with your treating gastroenterologist. Depending on the results, your doctor may recommend further tests, medication, dietary changes, or other treatments. In urgent cases, we communicate findings immediately so that care can begin without delay.
